August 15, 2012 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Vancouver Canadians News Release
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - The Canadians brought the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the 9th inning on Wednesday afternoon, but Yakima closer LHP Will Locante got CF Ian Parmley to ground out snapping the C's three-game winning streak by topping Vancouver 3-2 out at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.
Yakima jumped out to grab the game's first run in the top of the 4th inning off of Canadians starter RHP Taylor Cole. Yakima SS Josh Parr would hit a one out double, his 14th of the season, down the left field line and come around to score two batters later when LF Shawn Cooper hit his 10th double of the summer scoring Parr from second base to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.
Vancouver would draw even in the bottom of the 5th inning as CF Ian Parmley and 2B Derrick Chung hit back to back doubles off of Yakima RHP Austin Platt who would pitch five innings in relief of starter LHP Zach Wheeler who left after the third inning.
The Bears would regain the lead in the top of the 7th inning when Canadians reliever LHP Bobby Brosnahan returned from the disabled-list and gave up a home run to the first batter he faced as Yakima 3B Mark Ginther hit a 1-0 fastball over the left field. Brosnahan took over for RHP Taylor Cole who went six innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits in the no-decision.
With Yakima tacking on a run in the top of the 8th inning, the C's would trail 3-1 heading to the bottom of the 9th and made it interesting when LF Matt Newman hit his 3rd triple of the season and later scored on a C Tucker Frawley groundout to make it 3-2, but Bears closer LHP Will Locante would get CF Ian Parmley to ground out with the tying run on-base (RF Carlos Ramirez) to preserve the Bears victory.
Notes: With the loss, Vancouver falls to just 1 1/2 games ahead of Eugene who will host Tri-City tonight at PK Park starting at 7:05pm... The Canadians now host Everett for a three-game series starting on Thursday at 7:05pm... Vancouver is 2-7 (.222) this season against Everett and 1-2 (.333) against the Aquasox out at Scotiabank Field.
