Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Memorial Stadium - Everett, WA) - A dominant pitching performance from Canadians RHP Jesse Hernandez combined with an offensive outburst helped Vancouver (5-2) to an impressive 9-3 win over the Everett Aquasox (3-4) on Thursday night.

The Canadians opened the scoring in the top of the 3rd inning when SS Shane Opitz slapped a single off of Everett LHP Tony Butler and then came around to score on a double from CF Jon Jones giving Vancouver a 1-0 lead.

Opitz would end up 4-for-4 on the night for Vancouver who added to their lead in the top of the 6th inning once they got into the Aquasox bullpen. RHP Cody Weiss started the inning but was pounded for four runs including RF Steve McQuail's second home run of the summer giving the C's a 5-0 lead.

Canadians starter RHP Jesse Hernandez would go 4 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball limiting the potent Aquasox offense, scattering four hits while striking out two for his second straight impressive outing.

Everett would push back in the bottom of the 6th inning as 2B Jorge Agudelo would hit a two run home run off of Canadians reliever RHP Philip Brua as part of a three-run rally that cut Vancouver's lead to 5-3.

The Canadians would add three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning which was highlighted by an RBI single from SS Shane Opitz before Vancouver would tack on a final run in the top of the 9th inning to pull away from the Aquasox with a 9-3 final in Everett, Washington.
