Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett AquaSox (3-4) fell below .500 again on the season by losing the second game of the three-game set with the Vancouver Canadians (5-2) by a score of 9-3 despite an amazing performance by Frogs starter Tony Butler, who struck out nine Vancouver batters in five innings of work.

Butler (0-1, 0.90 ERA) was given the loss even though he only allowed just three hits and one run in the third on a double by Canadians center-fielder Jonathan Jones plating Shane Opitz. Butler struck out five of the first eight batters he faced, and has only allowed 4 hits on the season in 10 total innings while striking out 14.

After Butler left the game after the fifth inning, the Frogs sent out right-hander Cody Weiss, a 14th round pick in the 2011 Draft making his minor league debut, and Vancouver took advantage scoring four runs off three hits, including a home run by left-fielder Steve McQuail, Weiss' first minor league batter ever faced.

The Frogs could not recreate the offensive explosion from their home opener, but attempted to rally back by scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning off a two-run home run by second baseman Jorge Agudelo and a RBI single by center-fielder Jarrett Burgess, his seventh RBI in three games. Vancouver put the game out of reach with three runs in the next half inning on two sacrifice outs and a single by Opitz and cruised to victory.

The Sox look to take the series win and get back to .500 at 4-4 as they send out right-hander Jose Campos (0-0, 1.50 ERA), who allowed one run in six innings in his first start of the season, against Canadians left-hander Justin Nicolino at 7:05 p.m.
