Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (September 18)-The goal lights around the Central Hockey League (CHL) will be put to work this season as the Texas Brahmas announced the signing of sniper Ryan Cruthers for the 2009-10 season.
Cruthers joins the CHL champs for his third professional season, hailing from the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). Last season the Farmingdale, NY native played with the Mississippi Sea Wolves, posting 66 points (29 goals, 37 assists) in 65 games. His impressive play caused a pair of call ups to the American Hockey League (AHL) from the Lake Erie Monsters and Albany River Rats.
Prior to going pro, the 25 year old forward played college hockey for Army and Robert Morris University in the NCAA. As an underclassman, Cruthers notched 34 points (11 goals, 23 assists) in 47 games with Army. Cruthers finished his collegiate career following a transfer to Robert Morris University and wrecked havoc on the opposing teams. In his two seasons with the Colonials, Cruthers put up 86 points (39 goals, 47 assists) in 68 games.
As a senior at Robert Morris, the 6-foot, 175 pound winger earned the team's Most Valuable Player award, College Hockey America's (CHA) Player of the Year honors and was nominated for the Hobey Baker award.
Brahmas Head Coach Dan Wildfong is looking forward to his newest signing to hit the ice for the Brahmas.
"Ryan is a kid who will bring a lot of offensive power. He has a proven that he is definitely a scorer in other leagues, so we expect to see the same here," said Wildfong.
Cruthers is lucky number thirteen in announced player signings for the Brahmas as he joins Brett Jaeger, Kyle Deck, Justin Kinnunen, Derek Merlini, Craig Minard, Kevin McLeod, Casey Russell, Jason Deitsh, Jamie Carroll, Jordan Cameron, A.J. Gale and Anders Strome.
The Texas Brahmas have announced their preseason game for Saturday, October 10 at the NYTEX Sports Centre as they host the Allen Americans. All tickets will be sold for $10.
