AVON, Ohio - Rather than set the table, Lake Erie leadoff hitter Jodam Rivera cleared it.

Rivera was 3-for-5 with three RBI and twice drove in the go-ahead run as the Crushers beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 8-3, at All Pro Freight Stadium.

Lake Erie had the lead three times. The Crushers held onto it after a nine-batter, five-run sixth inning. Rivera broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run single in the sixth off Rockford starter Guido Fonseca, Jr.

The RiverHawks took their only lead with a two-out rally in the top of the second inning. Luis Parache hit his fourth home run of the year and Jeremy Richter and Reno Malay hit back-to-back doubles to put Rockford in front, 2-1. The Crushers scored twice in the bottom of the inning. Rivera singled in the go-ahead run with two outs.

Rockford's Freddy Parejo hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to tie the game.

Lake Erie starter Andrew Weeks (4-3) gave up three runs on six hits over five innings and got the win. He struck out three without a walk. Fonseca (2-6) took the loss. Fonseca gave up six runs and matched a season high with 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings. He is winless in his last six starts.

The RiverHawks and Crushers continue the three-game series at 6:05 p.m. CDT Tuesday. The game will be aired live on ESPN 1380.

The RiverHawks' next home game is at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, when they host Washington on a Miller Lite/RBI's Thirsty Thursday.
