Crushers offense cannot get going

MARION, Ill. -- The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, fell to the Southern Illinois Miners, 5-0, as Miners starter, Rick Teasley, tosses his second complete game shutout of the season.

The loss for the Crushers (12-7) marks the first time they have dropped a series against a team in the West Division this season. With the win, the Miners (11-9) have now won their first series since they completed a sweep of the Normal CornBelters on May 22.

The Miners got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Francisco Rosario hit a one out single to left field. Craig Massey followed that up with a single to right, moving Rosario to third. Rosario would score on an error by Crushers catcher Bryan De La Rosa. De La Rosa tried to pick the runner off on third but the throw went into left field. Massey went to second on the error. Nolan Earley then singled moving Massey to third. Steve Marino then hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Massey. Shane Kennedy singled moving Earley to third. With Johnny Cole at the plate, Kennedy went to steal second and a bad throw by De La Rosa allowed Earley to score. Kennedy was out trying to reach third on the same play. The Miners led the Crushers, 3-0.

The Miners would add two more runs in the third inning. Earley singled and scored on Marino's third home run of the season.

The Crushers starter Trevor Longfellow (0-1) was knocked around in his first start of the season. He went one inning, allowing five hits, three runs and two earned runs. Keegan Ghidotti came in and pitched 1.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on three hits, while striking out two. After Ghidotti, five Crushers came out of the bullpen, going 5.1 innings and did allow a run.

Teasley (2-1) started the game for the Miners and went the distance, striking out 11 Crushers and allowing only five hits.

Connor Oliver's 12 game hit streak came to an end as he went 0-4. His streak of hitting safely in every game that he started this season ended, as well.

The Crushers have Monday off and then start a series with the Joliet Slammers on Tuesday at Silver Cross Field. The Crushers will start righty Jordan Kraus (1-0, 0.00). The Slammers starting pitcher will be announced later. The first pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM.
