Lake Erie Crushers News Release

Avon, OH - The Lake Erie Crushers have filled two gaps in the infield and acquired two new pitchers released from affiliated baseball teams. Jason Peacock and homegrown Andrew Davis will play the infield, while RHP Joshua Faiola and RHP Jacinto Gonell join the pitching staff.

Jason Peacock was drafted in the 26th round by the Florida Marlins organization in 2008. As a senior at Florida Gulf Coast University, the first baseman put up great stats with a .289 batting average and 26 hits in 27 games played. His performance earned him his school's Male Athlete of the Year award and Atlantic Sun Player of the Year honors.

"Jason has had solid numbers throughout his career," said Field Manager John Massarelli. "His bat will win him a job."

A Chillicothe, Ohio native, Andrew Davis signed with the San Francisco Giants organization in 2007 after graduating from Kent State University. In his third and final season with the Giants, he posted a .253 batting average through 121 games and finished with 111 hits and 3 home runs. Davis earned championship rings in 2007 with the Salem-Keizer Volcano and 2008 with the Augusta Green Jackets.

"Davis is a gamer type player that loves to play the game the right way," said Massarelli. "He will anchor 3rd base and be one of our run producers in the middle of the lineup."

Faiola was drafted in the 24th round by The Baltimore Orioles organization in 2006. He had a perfect season in the same year, posting a 2-0 record through 36 innings pitched, striking out 35 batters, while allowing only eight walks. Faiola graduated from Dartmouth College in 2006, ranked fourth all-time in wins (17), innings pitched (238 1/3) and fifth in strikeouts (188) and was named Dartmouth's pitcher of the year and MVP in 2006.

Jacinto Gonell was signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2004 by the New York Yankees organization. In four seasons, the right handed pitcher has accumulated twelve wins and eight losses, with a 3.08 ERA in 74 games played. In 157.2 innings pitched, he struck out 147 batters, while allowing only 77 walks.

"Gonell will be used out of the bullpen," said Massarelli. "He has an average major league fastball that he uses to attack hitters."
