River City Rascals News Release
O'FALLON, Mo. - The River City Rascals, presented by Progress West Healthcare, have added former Arizona Diamondback prospect, Jo Jo Batten, to the roster. Batten was a 35th round selection of the Diamondbacks in the 2004 June amateur draft.
Batten spent four seasons in the Arizona farm system and split last season between South Bend and Visalia, the latter the Diamondbacks' high "A" affiliate. The 24-year-old outfielder and second baseman hit a combined .247 with seven home runs, 36 RBI, 20 doubles, and six stolen bases between the two stops.
"Jo Jo will come in and compete for a position in either outfield spot or second base," Rascals manager Chad Parker said. "With tremendous speed and athleticism, he applies great pressure on the defense. Jo Jo also has the ability to hit with power."
Batten saw his greatest success with the Yakima Bears in 2007, hitting .290 with 17 doubles, one homer, 17 RBI, 36 runs scored, and 13 stolen bases in 63 games. He also drew 37 walks to go along with a .397 on-base percentage.
The McRae, Georgia native is a career .245 hitter with a .342 on-base percentage in over 850 at-bats. Batten and the recently acquired Chris Colton are both products of Middle Georgia College in Cochran.
