Lake Erie Crushers News Release

Rockford, Ill-The Lake Erie Crushers fall to the the Rockford Aviators, 3-0, on Wednesday Night in Rockford as the Aviators were able to scratch across a few runs and the Crushers offense struggled against the league leader in Earned Run Average.

The loss for the Crushers (8-13) is their second on this road trip. The Aviators (16-7) snapped their three game losing streak with the win.

The Aviators were the first to score early in the game. With one out, Michael Hur walked and moved to third on a double off the bat of Brian Bistagne. Tanner Witt then hit a single to right that plated Hur and moved Bistagne to third. The inning could have been worse if not for the arm of Emmanuel Quiles behind home plate. As Dusty Robinson was hitting, Bistagne was picked off third on a pickoff throw by Quiles following a pitch. The Aviators did not score again in the inning.

In the fourth inning, the Crushers' Joey Burney hit a leadoff single. Burney stole second and moved to third on a grounder to second by Quiles. Austin Prott then hit a pop fly to shallow right field and Witt made the catch with his back to home plate. He turned around and threw home before Burney could tag up and score. The Crushers left eight on base in the game.

The Aviators would add two more in the sixth inning. Witt led off with a single and raced to third base when Robinson hit a ground rule double to right field. Both runners would come around to score on a double hit to left by Devon Rodriguez.

The Crushers starter Brad Zambron (0-2) pitched well and went a season high five innings. He struggled in the sixth inning and was removed after the two-run double. Zambron had tied a season high with five strikeouts, he also gave up eight hits, three earned runs and walked one batter. Brad Duffy, Daniel DeSimone and Kolby Moore all pitched an inning of scoreless relief.

For the Aviators, Tony Rizzotti (3-0) went seven scoreless innings, allowing eight hits and striking out three Crushers. Rizzotti has now thrown 31 consecutive innings this season without allowing an earned run. Colby Holmes pitched an inning of scoreless relief and then Michael Schaub (7) closed the door to earn the save.

The Crushers will wrap up their three game series in Rockford tomorrow. The Crushers starter will be announced before the game and the Aviators will start right-hander Kyle Hassna (3-0, 3.00). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:35 PM.
