Lake Erie Crushers News Release
Sussex County, NJ - The Lake Erie Crushers tough road trip continues as they dropped a 10-3 contest tonight versus the Sussex County Miners. The Crushers (7-7) have fallen in their last five out of six games, and the Miners (10-3) have now won the series after taking Games 1 and 2.
The Miners struck early and hard after putting up three runs in the top of the third inning. They piled on another two in the second and third frames, implementing the majority of the damage in the early stages of the night.
The Crushers made their way onto the scoreboard in the top of the second. After a walk from Sicnarf Loopstok followed by a single and a steal from Jiandido Tromp, the Crushers had runners on second and third with nobody away.
Kenen Irizarry came to the dish the next at-bat and hit an RBI knock into the outfield, scoring Lake Erie's first run. Tromp was thrown out at home off of a fielder's choice from Sam Frontino, but Todd Isaacs Jr. came through with a one-out single to score the second run of the inning.
That would be all the crushers could get until the eighth inning. Loopstok would score again as chances became slimmer on an error, but the score was 8-3 in favor of the opposition.
The Miners added on in the sixth frame, tallying one more to their card before relieving any doubt of there being an unsecure lead with two more runs piled on in the eighth inning. They shut the door on the Crushers in the ninth, stranding a runner on first to win the series.
Crushers starter Nathan Holt had a tough day at the office. His final line was 3.0 innings pitched on seven runs after surrendering 10 hits. He struck out four without giving up a walk, but the Miner bats overpowered the right-hander.
Three Lake Erie hitters had multi-hit performances. Isaacs Jr. went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Tromp and Irizarry each went 2-for-4 with the Crushers shortstop picking up a run scored and batted in.
The good guys will be back in action tomorrow, hoping to avoid getting swept. Concluding the Miners series in a Sunday matinee will also finalize Lake Erie's first road trip. They will look to finish on a good note, with the first pitch at 2:05 PM ET.
