AVON, Ohio - The Lake Erie Crushers saw six pitchers combine to toss a four-hit shutout at All Pro Freight Stadium on Friday night, as they took the second game of their series, with a 3-0 win over the River City Rascals.

The victory guarantees the Crushers (1-0) their second series victory in the opening series of the season for the second time in the last three seasons, while the loss for the Rascals (0-2) leaves them looking for their first victory of the year.

Fernando Gallegos started the game for the Crushers, and tossed four scoreless innings, while allowing just one hit, but did not go deep enough into the contest to qualify for the decision. Kolby Moore, Mike Devine (2-0) Keegan Ghidotti, Chandler Jagodzinski and Trevor Longfellow (1) took the Crushers the rest of the way, allowing just three hits through the final five innings to preserve the shutout.

The Crushers had chances to score in the first and again in the fourth. They stranded runners at the corners in the first, before a double play ended a bases loaded threat in the fourth.

Lake Erie scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jose Barraza got it started by reaching on an errant throw from the pitcher Tim Koons (0-1), which put Barraza on second base. He scored the game's first run moments later on Juan Avila's RBI single to center. Daniel Aldrich followed with a run scoring triple to the gap in right-center, and Parker Norris drove in the final run of the inning on a RBI single through the left side.

The top of the ninth began with a single from River City right-fielder Dominique Taylor, but he tried to advance to second, and was thrown out by right-fielder Daniel Aldrich. Johnny Morales followed with a base hit, but Longfellow was able to retire the next two batters to seal the deal.

Devine scored the victory for the second straight night, tossing 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. Longfellow allowed a pair of hits in the ninth, but kept the Rascals off the board for his first save of the season. Koons took the loss after allowing three runs, two earned on six hits over 5.1 innings of work.

Eight Crushers hit safely at least once on the night, and Juan Avila led the way, going 2-for-4, with a run scored and a RBI as well.

The Crushers will finish their three-game series with the River City Rascals at All Pro Freight Stadium on Saturday night. Right-hander Steve Hagen (0-0, 0.00) will start for the Crushers and the Rascals will counter with right-hander Zeb Sneed (0-0, 0.00). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
