Crunch Seize 3-2 Overtime Victory against Bears

Syracuse, NY - Jon DiSalvatore scored 1:50 into overtime to lift the Crunch to a 3-2 victory over the Hershey Bears tonight at the War Memorial Arena.

The win advances the Crunch to 24-26-4-5 on the season and 5-2-0-1 in the season series with the Bears.

Crunch goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis stopped 31 of 33 shots in victory, while Bears goaltender Philipp Grubauer stopped 34 of 37. The Crunch had no power-play opportunities and the penalty kill united allowed a goal on the Bears's only man advantage.

The Bears and Crunch each scored once in the first to end the period tied 1-1. Chris Brown one-timed a feed from Kris Newbury to give the Bears a 1-0 lead at the 9:50 mark. Newbury passed the puck from behind the goal to Brown in the slot, who scored on the power play. Dane Byers was credited with the secondary assist. The Crunch tied the game with 5:56 left in the period. Philippe Paradis passed to Charles Landry, who took a shot from the top of the right circle. Yanni Gourde earned his first Crunch point with an assist on the goal.

Dalton Smith scored the only goal in the middle frame to give the Crunch a 2-1 lead. Smith backhanded the puck from the middle of the right circle to beat Grubauer on the glove side at the 2:48 mark. Evan Rankin and Max Parent each picked up a point on the go-ahead goal.

The Bears tied the game up with a goal at the 9:13 mark to send the game overtime. Matt Watkins flipped the puck past Gudlevskis with assists from David Kolomatis and Byers.

During the extra period DiSalvatore batted the puck into the net for the game winner after it bounced in front of Grubauer. Brett Connolly earned a point for the assist.

The Crunch face the Hamilton Bulldogs at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the War Memorial Arena.
