Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

The Edmonton Oil Kings are riding a season-high eight-game win streak after picking up two more victories over two East Division opponents.

The Oil Kings weren't the best of hosts to a couple of their Saskatchewan friends this weekend as they handed out a pair of three goal losses to the Regina Pats and Prince Albert Raiders.

Sitting at 38-11-2-1 on the season, the Oil Kings maintain a six-point cushion atop the Eastern Conference over the Winnipeg ICE and now lead the Red Deer Rebels by 10 points for top spot in the Central Division.

Highlight of the Week

Dylan Guenther dazzled a boisterous Rogers Place crowd on Friday night as he outmuscled Connor Bedard for a loose puck and made a power move to the Regina net for the eventual game winner.

Bonus Highlight of the Week

Oil Kings rookie defenceman Braeden Wynne always has time for a picture with mom, especially on her birthday!

Oil Kings 6 vs Regina Pats 3 (Friday)

If Connor Bedard was supposed to be the headline act, consider the show stolen by Carter Souch as the veteran Oil King forward registered a third straight three-point game for himself to lead his squad to a decisive 'W' with two goals and an assist. Josh Williams tallied twice, which included his 200th career WHL point, while Dylan Guenther snuffed out any hopes of a comeback bid by the Queen City kids as he turned on the highlight reel for a third period go-ahead goal just under two minutes after the Pats had drawn even in the third period.

Souch kept his foot on the gas as he tacked on two more goals on Saturday night while being joined by Jalen Luypen with a multi-goal effort of his own as the Oil Kings ran their win streak to eight games. Jaxsen Wiebe and Luke Prokop lent helping hands with two assists each. Rookie forward Dawson Seitz snapped out of 16-game goalless draught with his first tally since December 15. Kolby Hay secured his fifth straight victory in the Oil Kings crease with 22 saves.

Three Stars of the Week

3. #6 Luke Prokop - The Nashville Predators prospect had another good week at both ends of the ice. He finished the weekend with three assists in two games while grabbing a +2 plus/minus rating. He also showed off his physical side as the 6-foot-5, 220-pound rearguard had a contender for hit of the week as he obliterated Cole Dubinsky of the Pats in the second period of Friday night's tilt with a heavy and hard body check. Prokop now has 12 points (1G, 11A) in his last 11 games while picking up a +16 plus/minus rating in his last 12 games. His plus/minus rating of +33 this season ranks 8th in the entire WHL and 5th amongst defenceman.

2. #23 Jalen Luypen - It looked like the Chicago Blackhawks prospect might have himself a frustrating weekend after being unable to touch the twine on Friday night despite an excellent effort that saw him generate several scoring chances for himself and his line mates. Finally, on Saturday, he would break through with his 9th career multi-goal game scoring the first two goals of the game for the Oil Kings to kickstart them after a bit of a sluggish start against the Raiders. The Kelowna, BC native is enjoying another career-year as he has surpassed the 20-goal mark for the first time in his career.

1. #44 Carter Souch - The fifth-year Oil King forward has been on fire as of late and finished this weekend with four goals and an assist. He is currently riding a five-game point streak (6G, 6A), a three-game goal streak (5G), and has four straight multi-point games. The local product has set new career highs in goals (19), assists (38) and points (57) this year with still 16 more games left on the schedule to add to those numbers. He is tied for the team lead in assists with Josh Williams and sits 22nd in points across the entire WHL.
