Inland Empire 66ers News Release

The Inland Empire 66ers (26-29) beat the cellar dwelling Stockton Ports (19-35) in dramatic fashion, wrapping up a series victory with a 3-2 win in 10 innings on a walk off hit by Inland Empire first baseman C.J. Cron. 66ers reliever Buddy Boshers got the win while stretching his streak of scoreless innings to 18.

"It wasn't the best swing, and in fact it was a bad swing," said Cron. "I was looking to just put it in the outfield and luckily, [the ball] got over into the infield and I got the run in."

66ers starter Lay Batista pitched a solid game going 5 2/3 innings while keeping the 66ers in the contest by limiting the Stockton Ports to two unearned runs. Batista struck out five and walked five before leaving the game with a no-decision.

66ers catcher Ricky Pacione drove in the game's first run scoring Cron for his second RBI of the year with the 66ers. Cron extended his hitting to 17 games with his leadoff single.

The 66ers offense quickly tied the game after trailing 2-1 when a leadoff single by center fielder Travis Witherspoon was cashed in on a bloop single by Hernandez off of Ports starter Josh Bowman. Witherspoon stole his 20thbase of the year to set up the RBI opportunity for Hernandez who delivered to offset an error he had committed earlier in the game. Hernandez has now 24 RBIs on the year, good for third best on the team.

The 66ers will go on the road to face the division leading High Desert Mavericks for a three game set in Adelanto starting Saturday with game one at 7:05 pm. The game can be heard on the home of 66ers baseball KCAA 1050 AM beginning with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians Pre-Game show at 6:55.
