
Crew waives four players, waiver draft set for tomorrow

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Tuesday, November 15) - Columbus Crew Head Coach Sigi Schmid announced today that the team has waived Stephen Armstrong, Devin Barclay, Ryan Kelly and Mark Schulte. The waiving of the four players leaves the team with 24 players, 16 senior roster players and eight developmental roster players, on its 28-man roster. The league will hold its annual waiver draft tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 5 p.m. (ET) via conference call.
CREW HIRES RICH GUTER AS ITS NEW HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER
Crew General Manager Mark McCullers announced that the organization has hired Rich Guter as its new Head Athletic Trainer. Guter joins The Crew after spending the past three years with Commonwealth Orthopedics Therapy in Vienna, Va., as an athletic trainer and physical therapist. Prior to his position with Commonwealth, he was the Head Athletic Trainer with D.C. United from 1996-2002. Guter is also a part of the U.S. National Team athletic trainer pool and was the Head U.S. National Teams Athletic Trainer from 1995-1996.
"I really look forward to being a part of The Crew organization," said Guter. "The Crew's medical coverage is known league wide as the best, and I just hope I can continue that tradition."
Former Head Athletic Trainer Craig Devine will remain affiliated with the club in his new position with Physio Therapy Associates. Physio Therapy Associates is a part of the Ohio Orthopedic Center of Excellence.
CREW TEAM EQUIPMENT AND GEAR SALE SET FOR THIS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY AT OBETZ
The Crew will host an end-of-year team equipment and gear sale this Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 19-20) at the Crew training center in Obetz. Sale hours are Sat., Nov. 19, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 20, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
CREW COACHES TO HIT THE ROAD SCOUTING THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
Crew Head Coach Sigi Schmid and the Crew coaching staff will hit the road this weekend to begin scouting the NCAA Division I tournament. The coaches will watch first-round games on Saturday or Sunday, before heading to Indiana University, the University of Akron and UCLA to watch second round games on Tuesday, Nov. 22. Indiana, Akron and UCLA are three of the 16 seeded teams who have byes into the second round.
