Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - The Columbus Crew and Historic Crew Stadium are hosting the 2023 Columbus City League Championships, presented by OhioHealth, on Thursday, October 12. The Club is featuring three matches - Linden McKinley STEM Academy vs. Columbus South High School (exhibition, 2:30 p.m.); Centennial High School vs. Whetsone High School (girls, 5 p.m.); and Walnut Ridge High School vs. Mifflin High School (boys, 7 p.m.) - as part of its mission to support the advancement of youth soccer and education in Central Ohio, including through its Stay in the Game! Network partnership with Columbus City Schools.
Tickets to the boys and girls championship matches are currently available for $6, while fans can enjoy the exhibition match for free. Paid parking will also be available on the Historic Crew Stadium grounds.
The Black & Gold have hosted the annual Columbus City Schools competition since 2011, with Thursday's contests marking the 10th time overall that the Crew have facilitated the festivities. The Columbus City League Championships were not held in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 protocols.
During the Columbus City League Championships, the Crew provide venue amenities such as the facility, field and other resources at no cost to the district or schools as part of their partnership.
Following the Columbus City League Championship games, the Columbus Crew Foundation and OhioHealth will recognize an MVP from the boys' and girls' matches, highlighted by $1,500 scholarships toward higher education.
The Stay in the Game! Network is focused on promoting school attendance and student engagement with its partner districts in the state. In the 2023-2024 school year, the Stay in the Game! Network, Ohio Department of Education and Harvard's Proving Ground, is collaborating with 43 districts, including Columbus City Schools, Licking Heights Local Schools and Whitehall City Schools in the Greater Columbus Area.
