Mississippi Braves News Release

After dropping the first three games of this series, the M-Braves entered Monday night's contest trying to get back in the win column. They did just that and in come-from-behind fashion. Trailing 3-2 entering the eighth, Mississippi got a run in the eighth to tie and a run in the ninth to win game four and pull even with the Birmingham Barons for first place in the Southern League South.

Chattanooga put the Braves in a hole again Monday night as they plated X runs in the top of the first inning. Sean Henry was hit by a pitch to start the game and he moved all the way to third on a single by Justin Turner. They both scored on a double by Eric Eymann to give the Lookouts the early 2-0 lead.

The M-Braves quickly tied the score in the home-half of the first. JC Holt drew a lead-off walk and Matt Young belted his second homer of the season into the open roll-up doors of the Crystal Springs Ford, Lincoln, Mercury Café. After one, the score was knotted at two.

The Lookouts plated a two-out run in the third to retake the lead. Daniel Dorn shot a single through the left side and Eymann singled to right-center putting runners at the corners. The two runners then executed a double steal that saw Eymann take second and Dorn swipe home to give Chattanooga a 3-2 lead.

Matt Young drew a walk and moved to second on a 6-3 groundout by Matt Diaz. With two outs in the inning, Young moved to third on a wild pitch and came in to score the game-tying run on an infield single by Greg Creek. After eight, the game was tied again, this time at three.

Javier Guzman and Jose Camarena hit back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners with one out in the bottom of the ninth. Quentin Davis' sac-fly to left plated Guzman with the game-winning run. Mississippi defeated Chattanooga to salvage at least one game in the series, 4-3.

Kris Medlen gave up three runs on four hits while fanning 10 in seven innings of work. He left the game trailing 3-2, but didn't factor into the game. Carlos Sencion came on in the eighth and threw a scoreless inning. Luis Valdez pitched the ninth and earned his second win of the season.

Sam LeCure gave the Lookouts seven strong innings as he gave up only two runs on four hits and left the game with a 3-2 lead. He didn't factor into the game either as the Braves later tied the game. Robert Manuel gave up a run in the eighth and Pedro Viola fell to 1-6 after giving up the game-winning run in the ninth.

The M-Braves travel to Jacksonville, FL after the game tonight. They'll travel through the night and take on the Jacksonville suns in the first game of a five-game series at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

After the five-game series in Jacksonville, the Braves will have three days off for the all-star break before returning to action on July 16th at Trustmark Park against the Carolina Mudcats.
