Birmingham Barons News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - In honor of the men and women that are currently serving or have served in the armed forces to protect the United States, the Birmingham Barons will host a Military Appreciation Night on Saturday, July 12, when the team takes on the Carolina Mudcats. The game is scheduled for a 7:05 pm start time.
All military personnel, whether active or retired, can get a general admission ticket for just $3 with valid military identification.
In addition, the Barons players and coaches will pay tribute to the military by wearing camouflage hats that will be signed and then auctioned off through a silent auction. The players are slated to wear the hats Saturday evening, but bids will be accepted both Friday and Saturday.
The proceeds of the auction will be donated to Minor League Baseball Charities, which will distribute the funds to the four cities in Iowa that host Minor League teams and were affected by the recent flooding (Burlington, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and Davenport).
The Department of Homeland Security and several local emergency management organizations will have displays set up outside the stadium beginning at 5:30. In addition, there is a scheduled appearance by the Patriot Guard Riders, a group of motorcycle-riding military veterans who serve to block war protesters from military funerals.
