Diamond Jaxx fall by a run

(Jackson, TN) July 7th- Ronnie Merrill scored on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning to break a 3-3 tie as the Montgomery Biscuits went on to beat the Diamond Jaxx 4-3, sweeping the four game series at Pringles Park.

Merrill began the uprising in the ninth with a one out single off losing pitcher Craig James (1-4). After Erold Andrus lined out for the second out, left-hander Nick Hill came on to pitch to left-handed hitting John Jaso. Jaso walked and Chris Nowak walked to load the bases. Hill uncorked a wild pitch to the left of Jaxx catcher Adam Moore, scoring Merrill with what proved to be the winning run.

Ryan Reid got the win, despite blowing his first save of the year. Reid improves to 2-2 on the season. Merrill and Nowak had two hits each to lead the offense. Biscuits starter Jeremy Hellickson allowed a run on five hits over six innings in his third start in the Southern League.

Ryan Ketchner gave the Diamond Jaxx their third straight quality start as the All-Star allowed three runs on nine hits in 6 2/3 innings of work. Marshall Hubbard homered and drove in two runs while Mike Wilson and Matt Mangini had two hits to lead the Jaxx offense.

The Diamond Jaxx open up a five game series with the Tennessee Smokies at Smokies Park in Sevierville on Tuesday night. Left-hander Justin Thomas (5-5 4.69) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. Tennessee will counter with righty Mark Holliman (0-3 4.81).
