Crawdads Drop Gnats 9-1 Monday

HICKORY, NC - Four Hickory Crawdads pitchers combined to hold the Gnats to three hits, and the Crawdads pulled away late to hand the Gnats a 9-1 loss on Monday night in Hickory, NC. The Gnats are now 1-3 on their season-opening seven-game road trip.

Opening Night at Historic Grayson Stadium is this Friday, April 15 with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 PM. Fireworks will follow the game. There will be music and special kids entertainment on the newly expanded Plaza.

The Crawdads (3-2) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run home run from DH Andrew Clark.

The Gnats scored their only run of the game in the top of the second to pull within one at 2-1 on DH Javier Rodriguez's second home run of the year.

However, the Crawdads answered back with two runs off starter Erik Goeddel in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-1 lead. Hickory added a run in the seventh and four in the bottom of the eighth against reliever Angel Cuan to establish the final 9-1 margin.

The Gnats will send RHP Gonzalez Germen to the mound Tuesday at 7 PM against Hickory RHP Roman Mendez. Catch all of the action live on News/Talk 630 WBMQ and streaming on sandgnats.com.
