SAVANNAH, Georgia - The Hickory Crawdads dropped the finale against the Savannah Sand Gnats, 8-0, before 1,587 fans at Historic Grayson Stadium on Monday evening.

The Sand Gnats (14-11, 49-46) again struck first, scoring three unearned runs against RHP Wilmer Font (6-2) in the bottom of the first inning. After a miscue in the frame enabled the Sand Gnats to load the bases with only one out, CF Sean Ratliff skied the ball to left field for a sacrifice fly, before 2B Josh Satin drove in two with a single later in the inning, making it 3-0.

Savannah added another run with a two-out rally in the second, consisting of a base hit by 3B Jefry Marte and an RBI double by DH Jordan Abruzzo to put the Sand Gnats ahead, 4-0. It became a 5-0 lead for Savannah in the bottom of the third, when C Kai Gronauer hit a sacrifice fly to right-center field, bringing in Ratliff from third base.

RHP Tyler Tufts navigated through the fourth and fifth innings without allowing a run and RHP Cody Eppley added a scoreless sixth. RHP Mark Hamburger took over for the seventh, when Savannah tacked on a tally with an inside the park solo home run hit by SS Wilmer Flores. Facing RHP Matt Nevarez in the bottom of the eighth, Gronauer hit a two-run homer out of the park, accounting for the 8-0 final score. Font was tagged with the loss for the Crawdads (14-10, 47-46), while RHP Jeurys Familia (8-6) earned the win for Savannah with 11 strikeouts through seven scoreless frames.
