Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE - Crash Davis came to play on Saturday night at McCormick Field. Nic Motley, Asheville's catcher, assumed the identity of Crash Davis and recorded a double and was hit by a pitch in his four trips to the plate. Motley and the Tourists came up one run short to Augusta in a 7-6 loss.

Sean Bouchard put the Tourists in front 1-0 with a solo Home Run in the bottom of the first inning. Augusta plated a pair of unearned runs in the second inning but Asheville used a balk in the bottom of the second to tie the score 2-2.

The GreenJackets then scored the game's next five runs to take a 7-2 lead. Asheville never went away. The Tourists scrambled for a rally in the bottom of the seventh. Tyler Bugner crossed home plate on a wild pitch and Chad Spanberger hit a three-run Home Run to bring the home team back within a run.

Unfortunately, Asheville only managed one base runner the rest of the way. Erick Julio, Austin Moore, and Robert Tyler combined to toss four shutout innings out of the Tourists bullpen.

Augusta's starting pitcher, Caleb Baragar, had to leave the game in the fourth inning when he was struck by a line drive off the bat of Matt McLaughlin. Ryan Vilade was the only Tourist to finish the game with multiple hits.

The two teams will play a rubber match on Sunday afternoon at 2:05pm before heading into the All-Star Break.
