GreenJackets Win Close Game in Asheville

Asheville, NC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, won 7-6 against the Asheville Tourist on Saturday night.

The bats were going for both teams all night as they combined for 21 hits in the ballgame. With the score tied at 2 after the second inning. Jacob Gonzalez double to left field to score Heliot Ramos from third base and give the GreenJackets a 3-2 lead.

That score would hold until the GreenJackets exploded for four runs in the fifth inning. Ryan Kirby got the scoring started in the inning with a three-run home run to center field. This was then followed by a Shane Matheny solo home run. This gave the GreenJackets a 7-2 lead.

That lead would hold until the Tourist started to comeback with a four-run inning in the seventh. Tyler Schimpf came out of the bullpen to get the GreenJackets out of the inning and keep it a one run lead. He would hold the lead in the eighth inning, and hand the ball to Frank Rubio for the save in the ninth. With the top of the order up for Asheville, Rubio got the Tourist quickly 1-2-3 to give the GreenJackets the 7-6 victory.

The GreenJackets losing streak now ends at 11 games. The final game of the first half will be played at 2 pm tomorrow in Asheville.
