Cracker Cats Crush Outlaws 22-3

EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA - The Edmonton Cracker Cats handed the Chico Outlaws their club record seventh consecutive loss, pounding out 28 hits en route to a 22-3 rout Tuesday night at Telus Field in Edmonton...it was the fourth straight win for Edmonton and dropped Chico to 0-6 on their Canadian road trip.

The Cracker Cats greeted Chico starting pitcher Eric Sheridan with seven straight singles in the bottom of the 1st, and by the time the inning ended Edmonton had sent 12 men to the plate and built an 8-0 lead. The Outlaws got on the board in the 3rd inning on a two-out Eric Pringle triple and an RBI single by Steve Boggs...but in the 4th the Cracker Cats struck big again, scoring four runs off Chico relievers Jason Roach and Rudy Quinonez to go up 14-1.

Joe Jiannetti greeted Outlaws right-hander Ben Shockey with a solo homer to lead off the Edmonton 5th...the Cracker Cats added two more runs before the inning was through to boost their lead to 17-1. Chico plated what turned out to be their final runs in the 6th - Boggs singled home Pringle and then scored on a Casey Garrison groundout to make the score 17-3 - but Edmonton continued to pound out the hits: five straight singles led to three 7th innings runs to put the Cracker Cats up 20-3...then in the 8th Edmonton added two more runs off Outlaws reliever Todd Gelatka to make it 22-3. Robert Coello officially finished off Chico by striking out the side in the top of the 9th to lock down the Cracker Cats victory.

Ricardo Rodriguez (4-1) worked the first six innings to pick up the win, with Sheridan (0-1 with Chico, 1-3 overall) lasting just a third of an inning in taking the loss. Ruddy Yan finished the night 5-for-7 with six runs batted in to lead Edmonton, with Marcus Nettles and Chris Van Rossum chipping in with four hits apiece...the Outlaws had nine hits on the night, with Boggs going 3-for-4 with Pringle and Kovacs contributing two safeties apiece. Tuesday's loss dropped Chico to 0-6 in the second half and 15-33 on the year...the Cracker Cats improved to 7-2 in the second half and 29-24 for the season. The Outlaws try to avoid a sweep by sending right-hander Greg Bicknell (3-2) to the mound for the series finale...Edmonton will counter with righty Nick Peterson (2-3).
