Long Beach Armada News Release

Starting pitcher for the Silver Sox, Steve Russell pitched an amazing game against the Long Beach Armada(3-2) as the Silver Sox (1-2) took the win 5-4 last night in Reno.

Russell (4-6) easily pitched his best game of the season as he went seven innings, striking out ten Armada batters and walking zero. The Armada offense was only able to get five hits off Russell who kept them scoreless. Reliever Derrick Landavazo was not able to continue Russell?s hot streak as Long Beach quickly found their groove on the righty. Landavazo allowed four runs off five hits. Mitch Arnold came in to earn his second save of the season as he finished the game out for the Sox. Arnold allowed no hits or runs and struck out two batters.

The Silver Sox offense began early when 1B Ryan Brown hit a sacrifice fly that allowed CF Gary Harris to come in. After Armada starting pitcher Dustin Gober walked 3B John Hattig, DH Juan Senreiso hit a monster homerun to bring the score to 3-0 Silver Sox after the first. Senreiso went one for four with one RBI and a run.

The Silver Sox would add more to the board in the third off a two-run homer over the right field wall by Brown. Brown was one for three with three RBIs and a run. Though, the Sox offense didn?t bring anymore runs in, it was enough to sink the Armada and take the first game in a three game series.
