Flyers Lose Marathon

July 23, 2008 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Orange County Flyers News Release

In another marathon affair, the St. George RoadRunners outlasted the Flyers 11-10 at Bruce Hurst Field in Utah. The game lasted nearly four hours, but a Dustin Hicks 8th inning sacrifice fly proved to be the difference.

The Flyers received stellar relief from Gabe Ward, who was handed the hard-luck loss. The win went to former Flyers pitcher Monte Mansfield, who has beaten the Flyers twice since being traded.

The game see-sawed back and forth through the first five innings with the Flyers blowing a three-run lead. They built the lead behind a steady barrage of hits led by Jermy Acey and Jeff LaRue.

After coming back in the 9th inning last night, Orange County (3-4) went quietly into the night against Bartolome Fortunato Wednesday.

Jeremy Zick will start the finale Thursday as the Flyers go for the series win.
