Long Beach Armada News Release

This weekend, on Saturday, July 26, the City of Long Beach will be hosting their 5th annual Long Beach Baseball and Softball Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Blair Field, immediately prior to the Armada's 7:05 pm game against the Calgary Vipers. Please join us as we honor this year's inductees.

The 14 new Hall of Fame members include seven former major leaguers, two respected and honored baseball scouts, two players who made their mark in the Pacific Coast League, nine products of local high schools - three each from Poly and Wilson, two from St. Anthony and one from Los Alamitos - and several who also were standouts at Long Beach City College and Long Beach State.

The nine baseball inductees include Lou Berberet, scout icon Eddie Bockman, Dick Cole, former Long beach State head coach John Gonsalves, 15-year major league pitcher Greg Harris, scout Roger Jongewaard, PCL star Jack Salveson and former Pittsburgh Pirates teammates Jim Pagliaroni and Tommie Sisk.

The five softball honorees are Long Beach City College women's athletic director Mickey Davis, former Nitehawk stars Bob Bomar and Bob Osborn, Long Beach State standout Carla Williams and longtime community supporter Russ Fendley.

The 14 new members will be inducted on July 26 at Blair Field and then honored in pregame ceremonies before a Long Beach Armada game.

The unveiling for the baseball inductees will be at Blair at 3:30 p.m., and the softball inductees at adjacent Joe Rodgers Park at 3:50 p.m. The ceremony and dinner will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the inductees will be introduced at 6:45 p.m. on the field at Blair before the 7 p.m. Armada game.
