
Crabs Stop Miracle Winning Streak, 7-3, on Saturday Night

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (August 23, 2014) - The Charlotte Stone Crabs dropped the Fort Myers Miracle, 7-3, in the second of a three-game series at Charlotte Sports Park on Saturday night.
The Miracle scored first in the second inning.Adam Brett Walker tripled off Stone Crabs starter Jaime Schultz to lead off the frame. Walker took an 0-2 pitch into the gap in right center. Then, Max Kepler rolled a single up the middle to plate Walker, 1-0.
The Miracle added a run to the lead in the fourth inning. Walker started the rally again with a one out single through the left side. Kepler then doubled into left center field to put runners at second. Tyler Grimes rolled a grounder to the shortstop. Juniel Querecuto tried to get Kepler at third base, but failed. Walker came in to score and Grimes picked up an RBI fielder's choice, 2-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Stone Crabs plated three runs off Miracle starter Ethan Mildren to take the lead. After Johnny Field was retired on a spectacular diving catch by Jason Kanzler in right center for the first out, Ariel Soriano laid down a bunt single and Tommy Coyle followed with a base hit to left. Jonathan Quinonez then doubled into right field to bring in Soriano. Querecuto followed with a ground ball to second to knock in a run and tie the game. On Major League rehabilitation assignment, David DeJesus drove in the go-ahead run with a single through the right side, 3-2.
Charlotte added three runs in the fifth on a pair of doubles from Soriano and Coyle. Soriano drove in two with a double down the left line while Coyle knocked in one with a two-bagger down the right field line, 6-2.
Jairo Rodriguez knocked in a run for the Miracle in the sixth with a RBI single, but the Stone Crabs pushed the lead back to four with a Quinonez run-scoring single in the seventh.
Mildren (2-3) took the loss for the Miracle after allowing six runs on nine hits with two walks and a strikeout. Schultz (2-0) was the winner after 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on six hits with a pair of walks and two punch outs.
The Miracle (78-53, 37-25) return to Charlotte Sports Park for the season series finale and rubber match of the current three-game set with the Stone Crabs (61-64, 30-28) on Sunday at 5 p.m. Fans can find all of the action on www.miraclebaseball.com with the 'Voice of the Miracle' Brice Zimmerman with the play-by-play call.
