CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Kevin Walter gave the Threshers another solid five innings, and Clearwater used the long ball to push past the Brevard County Manatees, 6-2 on Saturday night at Bright House Field.

Brevard County jumped out in front on Michael Reed's two-out RBI single in the first, and Manatees' starter Tyler Wagner cruised through the first three innings.

Things quickly turned around in the fourth.

Art Charles worked a one-out walk, and Brian Pointer stepped up and pulled a two-run shot out to right to boost the Threshers to a 2-1 advantage. The round-tripper for Pointer was his 15th of the season, which ties him for fifth-most in the Florida State League.

Harold Martinez then sent a deep drive off the wall in left-center for his first triple of the year, and Chris Serritella belted a 1-2 pitch beyond the wall in right for his sixth homer for the Threshers, giving Clearwater a 4-1 lead.

After permitting a run in the first, Walter settled in to hold Brevard County off the board through his final four frames. All told, Walter allowed a run on just three hits and two walks in five innings, while striking out three.

Walter has surrendered only one run on four hits over his last two starts, a span of ten innings of work.

Clearwater tacked on in the bottom of the fifth.

Roman Quinn drew a five-pitch walk to start things off, and swiped second base for his 30th steal of the year. Jesmuel Valentin lined a single to right to set up men at the corners with nobody out.

J.P. Crawford then delivered a double to right-centerfield to plate both Quinn and Valentin and lift the Threshers to a 6-1 lead.

Brevard County got one back in the seventh inning, when Nathan Orf collected an RBI single off reliever Aaron Baker to make it 6-2. Ulises Joaquin would enter with the tying run on deck and set down six of the final seven men he faced to end the ballgame and earn his seventh save.

The Threshers will host Brevard County for the final time in the 2014 season on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Coverage begins on the Threshers' broadcast network at 12:45 p.m.
