Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

(Central Islip, NY) After a series opening 1-0 win over the Ducks on Friday night, Southern Maryland dropped a heart breaker to even the series. The Long Island Ducks hit a walk-off double to secure a 5-4 win.

The Crabs struck first on Saturday evening, pulling ahead in the top of the first inning. David Harris pounded a line drive to left field to bring Michael Baca home, giving Southern Maryland a 1-0 lead.

Daryl Thompson (ND) was brilliant against the Ducks, allowing just three hits through his first five innings of work. In the top of the sixth, the Blue Crabs plated two more runs when Will Decker and Harris drove in a pair.

The Ducks' bats broke through with their first runs of the series in the bottom of the sixth, plating a quartet. After scoring one run, Long Island loaded the bases with no outs before Daryl Thompson forced an RBI double play. The Ducks pulled ahead with two down, pushing two more runs across.

Despite Will Decker doubling in the tying run in the top of the eight inning, Daniel Fields doubled in a walk-off game winner in the bottom of the ninth to tie the series at a game apiece. Southern Maryland will look to regain the series lead, and extend their first place margin with Mike Devine on the mound tomorrow.
