Coyotes Take Series Over Colts

Edinburg, TX- The Edinburg Coyotes closed their three-game series out with a huge victory over the San Angelo Colts 8-5 Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

The Coyotes (2-1) carried the momentum from yesterday's victory as they dished out eleven hits with one home run to capture their first series of 2008 season.

The Colts (1-2) jumped on the boards in the first inning as Tyrone Pendergrass scored from the third off a ground out from John Anderson. One run was scored by each team in the second but the Coyotes broke the game in half as they were able to put up three runs off of three hits in the third.

In the fourth inning, Coyotes short stop Angelo Fermin singled to center field and then stole second and reached third off an error by the catcher. Fermin then scored off a wild pitch by pitcher Bryan Henschel. Two outs later, Daryl Jones single to center and stole second base. Slugger Logan Wood doubled into right field to bring in Jones. Then Eric Gonzalez crushed one over the left-center field wall to bring in Wood. The Coyotes ended the inning with four runs off of four hits with one error to extend their lead to five. The Colts tried to rally back in the next inning as they brought in the two runs off of two hits. But Coyotes relievers Bryan Heaston, Luke Prihoda, Adam Clay and closer Julio Castro allowed only one hit after the sixth inning.

Heaston picked up his first win of the season while Henschel picked up his first loss. Castro grabbed his first save of the season as well.

The Coyotes will continue their home stand tomorrow night at 7:05 as they play host to the Amarillo Dillas. Miliade Venas is expected to start for the Coyotes and Micah Posey will take the mound for the Dillas. Venas was signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2004 by the Arizona Diamondback affiliate Missoula Osprey of the Pioneer League. Posey was selected in the 15th round of the 2001 draft by the Anaheim Angels.
