San Angelo Colts News Release

EDINBURG, Texas - After winning the first game of this three-game series in Edinburg, the San Angelo Colts committed four errors and lost their second in a row on Thursday night, 8-5, to drop the series to the Coyotes.

The Colts (1-2) scored first in a game for the first time this season as Tyrone Pendergrass, who led off the game with a double and stole third, scored on a groundout by John Anderson. San Angelo took a 2-0 lead in the second when Jose Torres walked to lead off the frame and later came home on an RBI single by Anderson, who picked up his third RBI of the season.

Edinburg (2-1) got one run right back in the bottom of the second as Jason Arrowood drove in Logan Wood, who led off the inning with a single and advanced to second when Eric Gonzalez was hit by a pitch by Colts starter Brian Henschel (0-1).

In the third, Edinburg grabbed a 4-2 lead as the Coyotes scored three runs, but two of them were unearned because of the first errors of the season by the Colts: one by the shortstop Charley Belew allowing Wood to score and one by Anderson allowing Gonzalez to come home. Wood tied the score earlier in the frame with an RBI double.

San Angelo battled back in the fourth to make it a 4-3 game as Torres scored his second run of the game when he once again walked to lead off the inning and then came home on an RBI double by Belew, who recorded his first professional hit.

However, Edinburg scored for a third straight frame in the fourth as Angelo Fermin singled to begin the inning, then stole second and went to third on an errant throw by catcher Adam Miller, making his San Angelo debut. Fermin then scored on a wild pitch by Henschel to provide the Coyotes with a 5-3 edge. Later in the inning with two out, Daryl Jones singled and scored on another double by Wood. The next batter, Gonzalez, chased Henschel from the game by blasting a two-run homer, his second of the series, to make it 8-3.

The Colts continued to battle back, scoring two runs in fifth to make it an 8-5 game and knock Coyotes starter Bric Steed from the contest. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Frichter scored when Andres Rodriguez hit into a double play. Torres then hit an infield single to bring home Jason Crosland.

The Edinburg bullpen did not allow a run in five innings of work. Julio Castro hurled a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his first save. Bryan Heaston (1-0), who didn't allow a run, was credited with the win since the starter Steed did not pitch the five innings needed to qualify for the victory. Steed threw four innings, allowing five runs, all earned, on six hits with three walks and one strikeout. Henschel lasted 3 2/3 innings and gave up eight runs, six earned, on 10 hits with no walks and no strikeouts.

The Colts begin a three-game series in Alexandria, LA with a 7:05 p.m. start on Friday, May 16. The Colts return to San Angelo for their home opener at Foster Field on Tuesday, May 20, 2008. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m., and following the game fans will be treated to a Fireworks Show sponsored by Adobe Signs & T-shirts and KLST.
