Edinburg, TX; July 24, 2007-What seemed like an impossible task for the Edinburg Coyotes finally happened Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The Coyotes, behind the outstanding pitching of Aaron Guerra, snapped a six game losing streak defeating the San Angelo Colts 1-0.
Everything went right for Edinburg tonight, and they finally started to look like they belong in the ULB, with Guerra and Colts pitcher Brantley Jordan in an all out battle of who would get the win. Guerra and the Coyotes came out on top picking up the only run scored in the contest in the seventh on a passed ball by Colts catcher Wyn Diggs that would score Alexis Hernandez.
Guerra, (7-3) did not allow an earned run in his eight innings of work, walking none and striking out five. Jordan (1-8) took the tough luck loss, allowing no runs on six hits, while striking out eight and walking two in his eight innings of work.
Julio Castro collected the save, his fifteenth of the season; striking out all three batters he faced in the top of the ninth to seal the deal for Edinburg.
Next up will be game three of the four game series versus the San Angelo Colts Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Game time set for 7:05 p.m.
The Edinburg Coyotes are members of United League Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Texas and Louisiana. The United League in its second season with teams located in Amarillo, Edinburg, Laredo, Harlingen, and San Angelo, Texas; and Alexandria, Louisiana. The ULB will play a 100-game schedule between May and August 2007.
