San Angelo Colts News Release

EDINBURG, Texas - The San Angelo Colts and the Edinburg Coyotes each committed one error on Tuesday night in Edinburg. The difference in the game was that the Coyotes were able to capitalize, blanking the Colts 1-0 on the strength of an unearned run in the seventh inning. The four-game series is now even at a game apiece.

With their third shutout victory of the season, the Coyotes ended a six-game losing skid and put a halt to the Colts' four-game winning streak. The Coyotes also defeated the Colts 1-0 on June 10 in Edinburg, as San Angelo was blanked for the fifth time this season on Tuesday.

The only run of the contest was an unearned run scored by the Coyotes in the bottom of the seventh off Colts starter Brantley Jordan. Alexis Hernandez reached on an error by third baseman Jamie Miller to begin the inning. Hernandez advanced to third base on a one-out single by Luis Espinosa on a perfectly executed hit-and-run play. During the next at-bat, Hernandez scored on a passed ball to give Edinburg a 1-0 lead.

Jordan took another undeserved loss, dropping his record to 1-8 on the year. He went the distance, throwing all eight innings, allowing just that one unearned run on six hits with eight strikeouts and two walks. Coyotes starter Aaron Guerra (7-3) threw eight scoreless innings for the victory. He gave up just five hits and struck out five while walking none. Edinburg closer Julio Castro struck out the side in the ninth inning for his league-leading 15th save.

The Coyotes nearly scored the game's first run in the third when Amado German singled to right field with two out and Eric Allen, a former Colt, on second base. Edinburg manager Vince Moore waved Allen home but Madison Edwards threw out Allen at the plate to keep the game scoreless.

In the top of the seventh, which was the half-inning before the Coyotes scored, Colts cleanup hitter Josh Allan reached on an error by Hernandez to begin the frame. However, Guerra then induced Edwards to ground into a fielder's choice before Andres Rodriguez hit into a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning.

Each team turned two double plays on the night and the Colts only put one runner on second base and nobody past second the entire night. The game was the quickest San Angelo game this year, lasting one hour and 58 minutes.

The Colts continue their longest road trip of the season at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, when they take on the Edinburg Coyotes in game three of this four-game series. The Colts return to San Angelo on Monday, July 30 to begin a seven-game homestand.
