
Coyotes Sign Forward Randall Gelech

GLENDALE, ARIZONA * The Utah Grizzlies National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate, the Phoenix Coyotes, announced today that that have signed center/right wing Randall Gelech to a three-year contract. Coyotes* General Manager Michael Barnett made the announcement. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Gelech, 20, played 71 games last season with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League posting career highs in goals (30), points (49) and penalty minutes (117). The 6-3, 212-pound forward also dressed in 17 playoff games for the Rockets where he netted 10 goals and four assists with 22 penalty minutes. Gelech helped lead Kelowna to the 2004 Memorial Cup championship.
*As a prospect, we like this player a lot,* said Barnett. *He has size, talent and a willingness to pay the price. Leading his team to the championship of Major Junior hockey last year has given Randall valuable experience and more confidence.*
The Wynard, Saskatchewan native finished the Memorial Cup tied for the tournament lead in goals (3) and was also tied for 5th overall in scoring with four points (3-1 *4) in four games. Gelech was selected to the Memorial Cup All-Star Team.
The seventh round selection (208th overall) of the Coyotes in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft played his entire major junior career with Kelowna scoring 62 goals with 50 assists in 237 career games.
Gelech will be one of 23 Coyotes* rookies participating in the second annual rookie tournament at Disney Ice in Anaheim this week. Phoenix will play San Jose on Thursday, Los Angeles on Friday and Anaheim on Sunday.
