
Prospects Prepare For Play

WORCESTER, MA â St. Louis Blues Senior Vice President and General Manager/IceCats General Manager of Hockey Operations Larry Pleau announced the club will participate in the 2004 NHL Prospects Tournament, September 10th -14th , in Traverse City, Michigan. Blues prospects will compete in the five-day round robin tournament against prospects from the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning.
For the fifth straight season, the Blues/IceCats squad will be under the direction of IceCats Head Coach Don Granato and Assistant Coach Steve Pleau. IceCats Athletic Trainer Rudy Cantu, Equipment Manager Joel Farnsworth and IceCats Manager of Public Relations and Broadcasting Mike Thornton, will join them. St. Louis' roster, which includes draft picks, signed players, and tryout players, is highlighted by goaltender Marek Schwarz, the Blues first round selection, 17th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and was also Central Scouting's number one ranked European goaltender. The roster also includes 2004 NHL Draft selections Michal Birner, Nikita Nikitin and Roman Polak as well as forward Greg Black and defenseman Brian Fahey. A member of the 2003-04 IceCats, Black skated in 39 games for the âCats last season, recording four goals, five assists and 129 penalty minutes. After signing to a pro tryout contract last January, Fahey later earned a standard players contract on February 4th. He skated in two games for Worcester, notching two penalty minutes.
Previous rookie camp rosters have included IceCats notables such as Barret Jackman, Jeff Panzer, Mark Rycroft, Igor Valeev, Matt Walker, Johnny Pohl, Peter Sejna and Brett Scheffelmaier.
The St. Louis Blues are scheduled to begin the 2004 Training Camp on Saturday, September 25th, at The Mills is St Louis, MO. The rookie tournament schedule is listed below.
