San Antonio Rampage News Release
GLENDALE, ARIZONA -- Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have re-assigned right wing Steven Goertzen to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage.
Goertzen, 24, collected two assists in four games with the Coyotes, the first points of his NHL career, after being recalled from San Antonio on Jan. 12. In 39 games with San Antonio this season, Goertzen has recorded 5-6-11 and 60 penalty minutes (PIM). Last season, he appeared in 81 AHL games with Syracuse and San Antonio, finishing with 9-8-17 and 106 PIM. Goertzen also scored one goal while playing in all seven of San Antonio's playoff contests.
The 6-foot-2, 218-pound Goertzen has appeared in 50 career NHL games, with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Coyotes. He made his NHL debut on Oct. 21, 2005 and went on to play 39 games for the Blue Jackets during the 2005-06 season, finishing with 44 PIM. In 2006-07, he appeared in seven games for Columbus.
A native of Stony Plain, Alberta, Goertzen has played in 285 career AHL games with Syracuse and San Antonio, recording 32-39-71 and 445 PIM. Goertzen was originally drafted by Columbus in the seventh round (225th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. The Coyotes acquired him from Columbus in exchange for Nate DiCasmirro on Feb. 28, 2008.
