Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
Edinburg, TX- It wasn't the kind of start the Edinburg Coyotes were looking for as they drop their opening day game to the San Angelo Colts 13-6 at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The Coyotes started the game off with a bang as first baseman Daryl Jones hit a solo home run to give the Coyotes a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the second inning.
The Coyotes then went into a slump in the third as the Colts brought in four runs off of starting pitcher Geivy Garcia.
The Colts didn't look back as they went on to score seven runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Coyotes had a spark of offense in the eighth inning when left fielder Logan Wood singled to left to bring in Gary Roche. MayoBanex Santana then scored when right fielder Eric Gonzalez reached first base on a fielder's choice. Jermaine Williams hammered one into centerfield to bring Wood in from third.
The game's winning pitcher went to Caleb Rodgers who gave up three hits, no runs and had one strikeout. Garcia picked up his first lost of the season and ended the night with the most strikeouts with five.
The Coyotes will have another shot at the Colts as they host another "Kids Day" at 10:35 a.m. tomorrow at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
