EDINBURG, Texas- It was a long night for the Edinburg Coyotes (10-16) as the Amarillo Dillas (17-7) dished out a potent offensive attack that the Coyotes were unable to keep up with as they lose 16-2 Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The Dillas were an offensive machine and never seemed to slow the pace down throughout the night as they racked in a combined 24 hits.
Coyotes' starting pitcher Toro Trevino (0-1) gave up eight runs on 12 hits in four innings of play and picked up his first loss of the season. Dillas starting pitcher Marcos Castillo (4-0) gave up only two runs on nine hits and picked up the win for his team.
The Dillas struck first as Gary Schneidmiller hit an RBI double to left field to bring in Kieth Brachold from second and the Dillas took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
The Coyotes answered back in the bottom half of the frame when Angelo Fermin hit a lead double to center. He then advanced to third on a single from Gary Roche. MayoBanex Santana brought Fermin in on an RBI single to center to tie the game. Eric Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly to center field bringing in Roche from third and taking a 2-1 advantage.
In the third inning, Dillas first baseman A J Johnson tied the game when he singled to left field bringing in Jonathan Reynoso from third. The next batter, Andrew Wong, recaptured the lead for the Dillas as he singled to right field that brought in Shcneidmiller from third.
The Dillas lead ballooned as they scored five runs on seven hits in the fourth inning to extend the lead to six.
In the sixth inning, Dillas put another five runs on four hits to give them a monster lead at 13-2. Dillas capped the game off in the seventh after posting up three more runs.
The Coyotes begin a three-game series against the Harlingen WhiteWings tomorrow night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. First pitch is at 7:05. It is also First National Bank "Buyout Night" so there will be free admission for everyone.
