
Broncos Drop Series In San Angelo

San Angelo, TX-The Laredo Broncos blew a 3 run lead and lost in extra innings against the San Angelo Colts 4-3 on Tuesday night at Foster Field. The Broncos return home for a short 3 game series against the Alexandria Aces on Wednesday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Broncos got the scoring going in the top of the 2nd inning. Santiago Guerrero led off reaching base on an error. Then Arnoldo Ponce hit into a fielders choice forcing out Guerrero at 2nd. With two outs Matt Lawman hit an infield single advancing Ponce to 2nd. Then Anthony Bennett doubled into right scoring both Ponce and Lawman. Eric Padilla would then single scoring Bennett from 2nd and giving the Broncos a 3-0 lead.
The Colts would get on the scoreboard against Broncos starter John Odom in the bottom of the 4th inning. With two outs Bryan Frichter singled and then stole 2nd base. The very next batter Andres Rodriguez singled scoring Frichter and making the score 3-1.
John Odom was sailing along for 5 innings when he ran into trouble in the 6th. Tyrone Pendergrass led off the inning with a walk and advanced to 2nd on a balk. Robert Mendoza then singled putting runners on the corners. That would do it for Odom as David Wasylak came into the game in relief. Wasylak would strike out the first man he faced. Andres Rodriguez would then hit a groundball to Arnoldo Ponce who flipped to Matt Lawman at 2nd for a force out but the relay throw was not in time as Rodriguez was safe and that allowed Pendergrass to score cutting the Broncos lead to 3-2.
Odom would go 5+ innings for Laredo giving up 2 runs on 5 hits. He walked 1 batter and struck out 1.
David Wasylak was pitching well in relief till we got to the bottom of the 8th. With one out Tyrone Pendergrass doubled. Then with 2 outs Bryan Frichter singled scoring Pendergrass and tying the game at 3 heading into the 9th inning.
Colts starter Frank James would be done after 8 innings. He gave up 3 runs, 0 earned on 9 hits, he walked 2 batters and struck out 3.
The Colts threatened to end the game in the bottom of the 9th against reliever Rusty Jones. Aaron Cone doubled to start off the inning. Then Jose Torres was hit by a pitch putting runners on 1st and 2nd. The next batter Wyn Diggs was trying to bunt and missed a pitch, when Luany Sanchez fired down to 2nd and picked off Cone on 2nd. Diggs would then strike out. Jones would get pinch hitter John Anderson to ground out to end the inning going into extra innings tied at 3.
The Colts had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the 11th inning. With one out Aaron Cone reached base on an error by 2nd baseman Matt Lawman with Dan Sausville pitching for the Broncos. Then with 2 outs Wyn Diggs also reached base on an error by Lawman putting runners on 1st and 2nd. Then John Anderson would single scoring Cone from 1st giving San Angelo the victory 4-3.
The Broncos scored 3 runs on 11 hits and committed 3 errors, while the Colts scored 4 runs on 11 hits and committed 2 errosr.
The Broncos now fall to 13-13 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Wednesday night in Laredo to start a 3 game series with the Alexandria Aces at 7:35 at Veterans Field.
