Coyotes Dominate Wings Early

EDINBURG, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes (10-19) snapped a three game losing streak as they dominated early against the Harlingen WhiteWings (12-18) winning 9-5 Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.

Coyotes' starting pitcher Eric Montoya (3-2) dominated in the early innings allowing only one run through six innings picking up his third win of the season. WhiteWings' pitcher Alex Gett (1-5) struggled through the game allowing seven runs as he picked up his fifth loss. Julio Castro (5) got the save for the Coyotes.

The Coyotes came out firing in the first as Angelo Fermin started the inning off with a walk and advanced to third on a single from Gary Roche. MayoBanex Santana then hit an RBI single to bring in Fermin and advance Roche to third. Daryl Jones followed with a single to score Roche and extend their lead to two. Eric Gonzalez reached on an error that brought in Santana and Jones then scored on an RBI single from Logan Wood to give the Coyotes a 4-0 advantage. Coyotes sent nine batters to the plate during the inning.

The WhiteWings answered back in the next inning after a solo homerun from third baseman Ryan Fox to put the score at 4-1. It was his fifth homer of the season.

The Coyotes offense exploded again after four scoreless innings as Alex Entrikin singled to center field. Fermin then reached base on error by the short stop advancing Entrikin to second. Roche singled to left advancing Fermin to second and forcing an out at third. Santana then hit an RBI single to score Fermin to give a 5-1 lead. Jones then hit another RBI single to center bringing in Roche. Brandon Kling went in for Gett and Gonzalez hit an RBI single off him to give them a 7-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth.

In the seventh inning, WhiteWings responded with an offensive production of their own as they were able to score four runs off of four hits. Amadeo Zazueta hit a three run RBI double to cut the deficit at three and Bub Bergstrom hit an RBI single to bring Zazueta in to cut the lead to two.

In the bottom of the frame, The Coyotes stretched the lead to four after posting up two more runs from Wood and Eddie Wilson.

With two runners on first and second in the top of the ninth, Coyotes' closer Julio Castro went in for Bric Steed and closed the inning out allowing no runs.

The Coyotes travel to San Angelo tomorrow to take on the Colts in a three-game series and will head to Amarillo on Tuesday take on the Dillas in three-game series.
