San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Amarillo Dillas continued their streak of winning when they score first, jumping out to a 6-0 lead and holding on to beat the San Angelo Colts, 10-6. San Angelo (16-14) got as close as one run at 6-5, but the Colts couldn't get over the hump, leaving 14 men on base on the night. The Dillas are now 14-0 when scoring first.

Billy McKinney (0-1) made his first start of the year and allowed three runs in each the second and fifth. In the top of the second, Amarillo (19-8) got consecutive hits from Danny Bravo, A.J. Johnson, and former Colt Sam McLain to start the frame and take a 2-0 lead. Then, with two outs and McLain at third, McKinney tried to go from the full windup, but he balked, and McLain came in to score.

In the fifth, McKinney was a batter away from getting out of a jam, but he walked Bravo, and Johnson ripped a three-run double to the right-center field gap to make it 6-0. On the night, McKinney allowed those six runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out one.

The Colts got four runs off starter Micah Posey (5-0) in the fifth to draw closer, and chased him with another run in the sixth to make it 6-5, as Bryan Frichter reached on an infield single off the reliever Ralph Roberts. But Andres Rodriguez grounded out and Benny Craig struck out to end the threat.

Bravo made it 7-5 with an RBI double in the seventh and the Dillas scored another three runs in the eighth to take a 10-5 advantage. In that inning, Jonathan Reynoso and Johnson each singled home a run and Bravo walked with the bases loaded to force in a run.

San Angelo did touch up Posey for his worst start, statistically, of the season, as the lefty allowed five earned runs in five and one-third innings, but he still stayed perfect on the season and picked up his league-leading fifth victory. The Colts threatened one last time in the ninth, but with two outs and two on, John Anderson struck out against closer Drew Jackson to end the game.

Notes: Miliade Venas pitched a scoreless ninth for the Colts, his fifth shutout inning in six appearances with San Angelo...Tyrone Pendergrass and Rodriguez each extended their streaks of reaching base to 27 consecutive games, keeping pace with Bravo and Harlingen's Ryan Fox for the longest ULB streak.

The Colts continue this nine-game homestand with the series opener against the last-place Edinburg Coyotes at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday night. The first 500 fans through the gate will receive mini bats, sponsored by Qualtrust Credit Union. Advertising, ticket, and group information are available by calling the box office at (325) 942-6587. All Colts games are broadcast live on "Cool 100" - KCLL 100.1 FM and online at the Colts' official website, www.sanangelocolts.com, which is updated daily with the latest team news.
