
Broncos Rally Late to Take Series from Aces

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos got some timely hitting in key situations as they beat the Alexandria Aces by a score of 7-5 on Friday night at Veterans Field in front of a crowd of 1,392. The Broncos head back on the road for a short 3 game series against the Harlingen WhiteWings on Saturday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Aces would get the scoring going in the top of 3rd inning. Bryan Sabatella led off the inning with a walk and then went to 2nd on a single by Robert Matlock. Then Jose Umbria hit a fly ball to right fielder Dwayne White, who dropped it allowing all runners to be safe. Blake Butler would then double scoring Sabatella and Matlock and giving Alexandria the early 2-0 lead.
The Broncos would threaten for the 1st time in the game in the bottom of the 4th inning. Eric Padilla singled to start off the inning and went to 3rd base on a double by Dwayne White. Edgard Clemente would hit a groundball back to the pitcher Chad Linder who threw to 3rd getting Padilla in a run down. Padilla would eventually be tagged out, and Clemente thought White has gone to 3rd during the run down and ran to 2nd. But, White was just off of 2nd base and he got tagged out for the unusual double play. Clemente would be on 2nd and Luany Sanchez grounded out to end the threat and keep the score 2-0.
The Broncos would get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 5th. With one out Ben Tinius singled. Then with 2 outs Anthony Bennett walked advancing Tinius to 2nd. Then Steven Wright singled to load the bases. Eric Padilla would then hit a single scoring Tinius. Bennett would also try to score on the play but was thrown out at home plate after colliding with catcher Jose Umbria to end the inning, making the score 2-1.
The Aces would strike back in the top of the 6th inning. Selwyn Langaigne led off the inning with a solo home run his 4th of the season. The next batter Patrick O'Sullivan would single and then he would score on a 2 run home run by Palmer Karr Jr., his 6th of the season. That would give the Aces a 5-1 lead.
The Broncos would get some more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. With one out Edgard Clemente doubled. Luany Sanchez would then follow with an infield single advancing Clemente to 3rd. Arnoldo Ponce would then hit a single and score Clemente. Ben Tinius would then hit a single scoring Sanchez from 2nd and moving Ponce to 3rd. Juan Carlos Ovalles would then come in for Aces starter Chad Linder. Ovalles first pitch was a wild pitch, but catcher Jose Umbria got to it and got Ponce at home trying to score, but Tinius moved to 2nd. Santiago Guerrero would then come into the game when Anthony Bennett hurt himself on a swing with a 0-1 count. Guerrero would then single scoring Tinius and cutting Alexandria's lead to 1 run by a score of 5-4.
Andy Schon would leave the game after 6 innings for the Broncos. He gave up 5 runs, 4 earned on 7 hits. He walked 1 and struck out 4.
The Broncos would get Schon off the hook for the loss with another good offensive inning in the 7th. Eric Padilla walked to lead off the inning. Then Dwayne White hit a ground ball to Robert Matlock at first base who tried to get Padilla at 2nd, but the throw was high allowing all the runners to be safe. After a strikeout Luany Sanchez singled scoring Padilla from 2nd and advancing White to 2nd. Laredo would take the lead when Arnoldo Ponce singled scoring White from 2nd and moving Sanchez to 2nd. Then with two outs, Matt Lawman singled scoring Sanchez from 2nd. That would make the score Laredo 7 and Alexandria 5 after 7 innings.
Julian Williams, David Wasylak, and Rusty Jones would be the relievers and they would hold the Aces scoreless through the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings as the Broncos took the series by a score of 7-5.
The Broncos scored 7 runs on 14 hits and committed 2 errors, while the Aces scored 5 runs on 8 hits and committed 1 error.
The Broncos move back over the .500 mark with a 15-14 record. The Broncos will be back in action on Saturday night in Harlingen for the start of a 3 game series with the WhiteWings at 7:05.
