Alexandria, La. - The Edinburg Coyotes avoided their second-straight three-game sweep as they beat the Alexandria Aces 14-5 at Bringhurst Field Saturday night. The Coyotes scored eight runs in the third inning to give them a huge cushion for the rest of the game. Amado Herman led off the inning with a solo home run to left field, his second of the year to cut the Aces lead to 3-1. The Coyotes were not done there as they exploded for seven more runs in the inning. Patrick Gaylord hit his first homer of the year with a grand slam. Edinburg added three more runs in the third to give them a five-run lead. The Coyotes scored three more in the fourth with RBI doubles by Daryl Jones and Mayobanex Santana and an run-scoring single by Eric Gonzalez. Aces starter Angel Guzman lasted just two innings as he gave up eight hits and five runs, four earned, walking one and striking out four. Guzman got the first six hitters of the game out before the Coyotes' big inning. The Harlingen WhiteWings come into Alexandria Sunday for a three-game set with the Aces. Chad Linder will pitch for the Aces versus the ‘Wings' Alex Gett. Game time is scheduled for 5:05 PM.
