San Angelo Colts News Release

HARLINGEN, Texas - Logan Williamson had his second straight good start for the San Angelo Colts, who overcame an early 3-0 deficit to win their first series of the year at Harlingen Field, 7-6. The lefty Williamson (3-1) matched his season-high by going seven innings, allowing four runs and nine hits, while striking out a season-high seven to get the win for the Colts (13-11), who finished their road trip to the Rio Grande Valley at 5-1.

Harlingen starter Kenny Evoniuk (0-3) was solid early, as the WhiteWings (9-15) scored two runs in the second and another in the third on a home run by Kevin Griffin. The Wings' righty starter allowed just one hit, a bloop single by Bryan Frichter, in the first four innings. But in the fifth, the Colts began to dent him. With one out, Aaron Cone and Charley Belew hit first-pitch singles, and Tyrone Pendergrass doubled home Cone. After John Anderson grounded out to score Belew, Frichter hit his league-leading 18th double to tie the game. Andres Rodriguez followed with a base hit to give the Colts the lead, and they did not look back.

San Angelo tacked on two more in the sixth, on two more RBIs from Pendergrass and Anderson. In the end, Evoniuk was knocked out after the sixth, as he gave up six runs on nine hits. Angel Cordero relieved and allowed just one unearned run in the final three innings.

Williamson escaped big trouble in the fifth, getting a strikeout by Brian Nichols and a 6-4-3 double play from Argelis Nunez to end the inning without giving up a run. The WhiteWings did get one run back in the sixth, but that was the final run the lefty allowed.

The teams traded runs in the eighth, and Brian Daly picked up his league-leading sixth save, despite allowing a run in the ninth.

Notes: Williamson passed Caleb Rodgers (2-0) for the team lead in wins, although Rodgers will try Sunday night to get that back...this is the first time this season that San Angelo is two games over .500; the Colts were 0-5 in their prior chances to do so...Miliade Venas, who was traded from Edinburg in the beginning of the road trip, pitched his third game as a member of the Colts, allowing his first run with San Angelo on a homer by Nunez...Frichter has reached base safely in every game this season; only Bryan Sabatella of Alexandria has achieved that coming into play tonight...San Angelo swept Edinburg before taking two of three in Harlingen, improving to 9-6 on the road.

The Colts return home Sunday night to start their first of two nine-game homestands of the season. Laredo, Amarillo, and Edinburg come to San Angelo beginning on June 8. First pitch on Sunday is 5:05 for Wienermania, sponsored by Yuppie Puppy. Advertising, ticket, and group information are available by calling the box office at (325) 942-6587.
