
Coyotes Bats Come Alive in Fifth

EDINBURG, Texas- All it took was a huge fifth inning for the Edinburg Coyotes (35-40) to dismantle the Alexandria Aces (47-29) 8-3 Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. With the win and the Laredo Broncos loss, Coyotes are now one game ahead for the fourth and final playoff spot.
Coyotes' ace Eric Montoya (9-2)pitched a great game once again as he gave up only three runs off 13 hits through 8 1/3 innings of work. Alejandro Martinez (5-2) picked up his second loss of the season as allowed eight runs through 4 and 1/3 innings. After four scoreless innings, the Coyotes broke the game wide open in the bottom of the fifth when they sent 14 batters to the plate. Coyotes dished out nine hits during the inning forcing the Aces to pull Martinez from the game.
Coyotes' center fielder Amado German led the inning off with a triple to center field. Brandon McConnell then walked. Gary Roche then hit an RBI single bringing in German and advancing McConnell to second. Angelo Fermin then hit a bunt-single and advanced to second on an error which scored McConnell and advancing Roche over to third. Alex Entrekin then hit an RBI single to right, bringing in Roche and advancing Fermin to third. Daryl Jones walked and Argelis Nunez singled to center scoring Fermin. Mayobanex Santana then hit a two-run RBI single. German hit an RBI-single and Gary Roche hit another RBI-single to give the Coyotes a commanding 8-0 lead. Aces' were able to put up three runs in the top of the ninth but the Coyotes were already well ahead for any chance of a comeback. The Coyotes will take on the Aces in Game 2 tomorrow night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05.
