San Angelo Colts News Release

SAN ANGELO, Texas - Logan Williamson flirted with a no-hitter, giving up his first hit on a bloop double in the sixth, and the Colts' bullpen was perfect to lead San Angelo to a 4-2 win over the Harlingen WhiteWings in front of 1,860 fans at Foster Field. The Colts have now won five in a row and have not trailed for one pitch of the last four games.

The first batter of the game against Williamson (10-4), Matt Lawman, reached on an error by second baseman Joe Rhomberg. But then the lefty retired David Fowler, got Amadeo Zazueta to hit into a 4-6-3 double play, and retired the next 12 WhiteWing hitters.

San Angelo (47-27), meanwhile, scored a pair of runs off Bryan Herrera (0-4) in the first. With one out, Tyrone Pendergrass singled, stole second after Herrera had him picked off first base, and then a one-out RBI double by Jose Torres and a two-out RBI double from Aaron Cone made it 2-0.

The score stayed the same until the fifth, when Pendergrass ripped his sixth homer of the year, a solo shot to left-center to make it 3-0.

In the sixth, Williamson walked Carl Johnson to start the inning. Williamson then had Johnson picked off but Johnson made it safely to second on the play. Then, Joel Gonzalez got that bloop double that landed on the right field line to score Johnson. After Greg Sillivent walked and Gonzalez moved to third on a wild pitch, Matt Lawman hit into a 6-4-3 double play to score a run but kill the momentum. Williamson then struck out David Fowler and worked around a one-out walk in the seventh.

Miliade Venas and Robert Romero each pitched perfect innings, striking out one each, as Romero earned his first save as a Colt.

Andres Rodriguez also went deep for the Colts, hitting a solo shot in the eighth and moving into a tie for the league lead with Luany Sanchez of Laredo with 18 homers each. Williamson also moved into a tie for the league lead in victories with Amarillo's Micah Posey with his 10th win of the season.

Notes: The Colts now have two one-hitters, with Luke Massetti throwing a one-hit shutout at Edinburg on June 4...Gonzalez has now broken up four no-hitters against the WhiteWings (19-56)...Romero becomes the seventh Colt to earn a save this season....Pendergrass now has two homers at Foster Field, compared to four on the road, three in Bringhurst Field in Alexandria.

The Colts continue their three-game homestand with Harlingen on Wednesday, August 6, with Sport Clips providing Haircuts at the Ballpark for a minimum $5 donation to charity. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Advertising, ticket, and group information are available by calling the box office at (325) 942-6587.
