Countdown to Face-Off
April 21, 2006 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
The United Hockey League's 2006 Colonial Cup Playoffs begin all around the league tonight including at Wings Stadium, where the Kalamazoo Wings will face-off against the Motor City Mechanics. During the regular season, the K-Wings were 7-2-1 against the Mechanics, which includes a record of 3-1-1 at Wings Stadium.
During the regular season, no team in the United Hockey League had a better home record than the K-Wings. Kalamazoo, which set their UHL franchise record for most home wins (27) in a single-season, will be looking to duplicate that success in the postseason, as the K-Wings will have home-ice advantage in the series.
In their second season of existence, the Motor City Mechanics will make their first-ever appearance in the Colonial Cup Playoffs. While this will be the trip to the postseason for the Mechanics, 19 of their 21 players do have playoff experience, including four players (Andrei Lupandin, Vlad Serov, Mel Angelstad and Rod Branch) that have won championships in their careers.
