Danbury Trashers News Release

DANBURY, CT--Despite an early 1-0 lead from the Trashers, it was the Quad City story on Friday at the Danbury Ice Arena as they scored unanswered five times between the first and second periods to build a 5-1 lead and an eventual 6-4 win in Game One of the Colonial Cup Opening Round Playoff at the Danbury Ice Arena.

David Hymovitz knocked in a rebound past Jason Tapp at the 12:41 mark to give the Trashers a 1-0 lead. Quad City was caught in a line change and Hymovitz backhanded a rebounded shot from JM Daoust past Jason Tapp, with Sergei Durdin earning the other assist.

However the Mallards started their run on a fluke goal, as a dumped puck by Glenn Detulleo deflected off of referee Pat Britt and bounded to Matt Radoslovich who scored into an open net. Danbury goaltender Sly Daigle left the crease to play the puck behind his net, but the unexpected deflection left him out of position for a Mallards power play goal.

Quad City opened the second period with four more unanswered goals with the lead goal scored by Jesse Rycroft at 2:43 mark, then one by Patrick Nadeau, who stole an errant pass and beat Daigle on a breakaway at the 4:51 mark to give the Mallards a 3-1 lead. Chad Woolard fired a one-timer past Daigle on a face-off win at the 5:49 mark from Detulleo and then Tom Clayton scored on a power play goal at the 7:14 mark.

Shawn Collymore would help the Trashers get back in the contest as he netted a shorthanded goal assisted by Mario Larocque at 11:40, then David Beauregard tallied a power play goal from Mike Omicioli and Larocque at 17:39 to cut the Mallards lead to 5-3 after two periods.

In the final period it was Samy Nasreddine scoring a power play goal at the 8:14 mark off a rebounded shot to give Quad City a 6-3 lead. The Mallards finished 3-9 with the man advantage.

Danbury earned a 5 on 3 power play with 2:02 left after Quad City's Jamie Yoder took a tripping penalty, followed by an illegal stick violation by Nasreddine. Drew Omicioli scored a power play goal at 19:47, but it was too late for the Trashers, who fall behind 1-0 in the best-of-seven series against the Mallards.

Sly Daigle stopped 29 of 35 shots on the Mallards, who also defeated Daigle in the opening playoff game last season while he was with Muskegon. The Mallards though lost that series in seven games to the eventual champion Fury. Jason Tapp saved 41 of 45 shots for his first playoff win of the season.

Danbury returns home for game two on Saturday night at 7:30pm. Games three, four and five are scheduled for Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at the MARK of the Quad Cities, with 8pm face-offs for each game.
