Countdown to Face-Off
April 18, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
If the season were to end tonight, the K-Wings' first round opponent in the Colonial Cup Playoffs would be the Rockford IceHogs, so to call this game a playoff preview would be an understatement. On the season, Kalamazoo is 3-2-0 against Rockford, which includes a record of 1-1-0 at the MetroCentre.
The K-Wings enter tonight the hottest team in the UHL. Kalamazoo has won 11 straight games and are unbeaten in regulation in their last 13 (12-0-1). A victory tonight by the K-Wings would tie the UHL record for most consecutive victories, a record held by this year's Kalamazoo Wings, the 1997-98 Quad City Mallards and the 2001-02 Elmira Jackals. While the K-Wings have already clinched home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs, Kalamazoo has their eyes on a loftier goal. Kalamazoo is just three points behind the Muskegon Fury for the top spot in both the Central Division and the overall in the league.
Rockford has already clinched the fifth-seed in the upcoming playoffs, so the IceHogs can now focus on going into the postseason on a high note. The IceHogs, who are 4-4-2 in their last 10 games, are winless in their last two games. Rockford has dominated this season at the MetroCenter, as the IceHogs are 24-9-5 in the "Big Orange Box".

Chasing History
The K-Wings are on an eleven-game winning streak and are unbeaten in regulation in their last thirteen games. In their last thirteen games, the K-Wings have a record of 12-0-1. The eleven-game winning streak is one game shy of tying the UHL record of 12 games held by this year's K-Wings, the 1997-98 Quad City Mallards and the 2001-02 Elmira Jackals A victory would make the K-Wings the only UHL team to accomplish the feat twice in the same year.
Staying Positive
The K-Wings have been positive on the road. Entering tonight, all the players on the K-Wings roster have a positive plus/minus rating. The K-Wings are the only team in the UHL to have all their players with a positive plus/minus rating.
Looking For Ten
Forward Andrew Luciuk is on a lengthy point streak. Luciuk is on a nine-game point streak, which is the K-Wings longest point streak of the season. In his last nine games, the veteran forward has recorded an astonishing 18 points.
On A Roll
Luciuk isn't the only K-Wings player on a multi-game point streak. Both defenseman Mark Vilneff and forward Dan Price have racked up points in each of their last three games.
